iTunes

To get your podcast on iTunes you must have an RSS feed.  This is a code that creates a short version of what your podcast is about each time you post one.  iTunes uses that code to put your podcast in its list.

It is your LUCKY DAY! You do not have to write the code!  There are free programs that will take care of that for you.

So, there are two steps to getting your podcast onto iTunes.

  1. Sign up for an RSS Feed of your Podcast.
    • Go to http://feedburner.com
    • Fill out the information to subscribe.  (Yet another password!!  Make sure you have written it somewhere that you can find.  I keep a spreadsheet on my thumb drive with all of my passwords so that I can look them up)
    •  You will be given a URL that you can use to put into iTunes so that your podcast will be listed.  If you also want a picture for your show.  Click on the name of your feed.
    • In the next window choose the tab that says Optimize.
    • On the Optimize page choose SmartCast.
    • Fill in the blanks.  The image that you choose needs to be online somewhere (have an http address).
    • Click Save.
  2. Submit your RSS URL to iTunes.  They say it takes a few days or a week before it is posted there, so be patient.  Once it is there it will automatically update every time you upload a new show.
    • Go to the iTunes Store (Go to the iTunes Program and click on iTunes Store)
    • Choose 'Podcasts' and slide way down to the bottom of the page.
    •

Choose 'Submit a Podcast' and fill in all of the information including the URL you just created in Feedburner.

In a short time your Podcast will be listed on iTunes.  You can find it by searching using the name that you gave the podcast.  When you do this the last podcast you linked will be shown.  You can click on it to get a list of all of the shows you have uploaded.  Anyone can subscribe to your podcast from here for free and download it easily to their iPod or MP3 player.
